Store & Prime Sale – Thursday 09/06/2022

Sale Report: As a result of the earlier week weaner and feeder sale, just 400 head of predominately slaughter type cattle were penned at Emerald today. Despite a very mixed quality offering, competition held at a good level, values holding at reasonably firm to slightly easier levels when compared to the good rates of last week. Bullocks over 550kg sold strongly to a top of 439c/kg for a 428c average. Steers in both the 400 – 500 kg and 350-400 kg weight ranges sold to a top of 430c/kg, and steers 280-350kgs peaked at 546c, these indicators clouded by a few numbers and below average quality types. The best of the cows over 520kgs topped at 384c to average 365c while cows in the 450-520kg weight range got to 372c to average 333c/kg. A firm bull market saw heavy bulls over 600kg average 348c/kg, lighter younger bulls reaching a top of 380c.

Sale Highlights:  The Marshall Family “Nandowrie” Springsure consigned a draft of Braham cross cows, the lead pen of 586kgs making 375c to average $2201. Rhonda Ryan “Banyula” Emerald sold 680kg. Braford cross cows for 364c/kg to record the food average of $2476 per head. Andrew and Marlene Slack “Mayview” Emerald had a 680kg Droughtmaster cross cow return $2422, while the Flohr Family “Wotonga” Nebo had 320kgs. Droughtmaster cross mickies made 504c/kg to return an average of $1613.
