Emerald Prime & Store Sale Report Thursday 2nd February 2023
Sale Report After a wet start to the year, Emerald finally got it’s first sale away for 2023, with just under 950 head. Storms on Wednesday morning steadied numbers, but kept buyer interest solid, when comparing Emerald prices against the rest of the state. Quality was reasonably good with plenty of condition particularly on the slaughter descriptions. In the prime section bullocks over 550kgs sold to 370c/kg to average 365c/kg, heavy steers 500-550kgs coming under slaughter & feeder competition reached 382c/kg to average 339c/kg, heavy heifers over 400kgs made to 315c/kg to average 317c/kg, heavy cows over 520kgs topped at 305c/kg to average 299c/kg, cows 450-520kgs made as much as 296c/kg to average 278c/kg, while bulls over 600kgs sold to 280c/kg. In the store section, heavy feeder steers 400-500kgs sold to 382c/kg to average 355c/kg, 350-400kg steers topped at 408c/kg to average 378c/kg, 280-350kg steers made as much as 490c/kg to average 424c/kg, weaner steers 200-280kgs sold to 556c/kg to average 449c/kg, while light steers under 200kgs were too few to quote. Trade feeder heifers 350-400kgs sold to 328c/kg to average 324c/kg, 280-350kg heifers topped at 414c/kg to average 362c/kg, weaner heifers 200-280kgs made as much as 496c/kg to average 392c/kg, while light heifers under 200kgs were too few to quote. A single pen of Crossbred cows, with 10 cows and only 7 calves at foot, sold for $1550/unit.
Sale Highlights: The Connelly Family “Peninsula” Clermont had their 565kg Brahman bullocks to 368c/kg and $2081, while the Prince Family “Janibee” Capella offered Droughtmaster bullocks to 370c/kg for 578kgs and $2139. The Atkins Family “Spring Creek” Collinsville had their 554kg Brahman cross cows to 300c/kg and $1664, while Dean Eyles “Doonedyn” Capella had his 680kg Brangus cross cows to 305c/kg and $2075. The Prince Family “Melaleuca” Capella offered Droughtmaster steers 502kgs for 348c/kg and $1750, while the Bailey Family “Bay-ella Downs” Capella had their 448kg Brangus cross steers to 376c/kg and $1686. The French & Brimblecombe Families “Dalkeith” Capella had their 320kg Droughtmaster cross steers to 472c/kg and $1511, while the Sibson Family “Cotherstone” Dysart offered Brahman cross heifers to 386c/kg for 276kgs and $1067.
